Coffee breakdown:

Variety: Yellow Catuai
Process: Natural
Producer: Gabriel Nunes
Altitude: 1170 m

For years, Osmar Pereira Nunes dedicated his life to raising cattle, never imagining that the real gem of his land was still waiting to be discovered. That all changed on November 24, 1984, when his son, Osmar Junior, decided to plant 10 hectares of Arabica coffee in the rich soil of Cerrado Mineiro.

Even though Junior grew up in a world of livestock, his heart was set on agriculture. Inspired by coffee investors coming into Minas Gerais, he leapt--and never looked back. For him, “coffee is no longer just a commodity, it's a spice, a product that's treasured around the globe.”

Third gen: Today, Chapadao farm--part of the Nunes Coffee family is thriving under the leadership of the third generation, Junior's son, Gabriel. Gabriel graduated from the prestigious University of Vicosa with an agronomy degree and brings fresh perspective and a new business mindset to the farm, blending tradition with innovation.

Nunes in the News: The care, tradition, commitment, and tech-savvy approach at Nunes Coffee have paid off. Their beans are recognized as some of the best in the world, winning awards both nationally and internationally. It’s proof that their day-to-day hard work, love for the land, and willingness to innovate are making a real impact.

Cerrado a special place: The Cerrado Mineiro region, located in the northwest of Minas Gerais, is one of Brazil’s top spots for specialty coffee. One of the region’s standout features is its distinct climate--Its hot, wet summers and dry, cool winters are ideal for growing coffee. Minas Gerais was the first region in the country to receive the Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) label, which certifies the origin and quality of its beans.
