Masha Washing Station, established in 1989, serves a community of more than 2,500 smallholder farmers in the commune of Gatara, northern Burundi. The station's name, derived from the Kirundi word amasho meaning 'herds of cattle', honors the area's pastoral heritage. This community-driven model enables traceable lots and a clear origin story. Most of Burundi's coffee comes from the highlands of Kayanza, where small producers deliver cherries to wet mills like Masha for processing.
