Tasting notes: Syrupy and rich with mandarin and honeycomb.
Coffee breakdown:
Origin: Northern Province, Rwanda
Variety: Red Bourbon
Process: Washed
Producer: Anastase Minani
Anastase Minani has been working in coffee since 1970. He purchased his first plot of land in 1989, planted it with coffee trees and built his home there. To prevent his community of farmers from having to rely on middlemen, he founded a growers’ association, which ultimately became the Dukunde Kawa Cooperative. He went on to serve as the co-op’s president from 2011 to 2017.
Today, Anastase is one of the co-op’s biggest producers, and he’s a deeply respected mentor and role model to many. Market Lane feels honoured to visit him on his farm each harvest season, and to offer his sweet and vibrant coffee on their menu every year.
“When I see the progress of Dukunde Kawa, I know I did a good job,” he told Market Lane on their most recent visit. “I feel fortunate to see so many farmers that are members now, and I’m also very grateful to you for buying our coffee. We hope to keep being the best for you and to keep our relationship into the future.”
