The Thiriku Coffee Growers Cooperative Society, located in Nyeri County in central Kenya, has an active membership of 1,192 smallholder farmers who grow coffee across 477 hectares of landscape on the slopes of Mount Kenya and the Aberdare mountain range.
The Thiriku smallholder farmers grow and sell coffee cherry to the Thiriku Cooperative once it is harvested.
After picking, ripe cherry is brought to the factory, before it undergoes processing to remove the skin and pulp – known as the wet processing method. This processing is completed by the cooperative with great care, and stored in parchment ready for export.
